Numbers entering and departing Japan from the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Southeast Asian countries, and Australia, all close to Japan, are steadily increasing.
In addition, numbers entering from France, the United Kingdom, and Germany in Europe and from the United States and Canada in North America are also high. These regions include countries with sharp increases and decreases. Indeed, some developed countries that had experienced a temporary decline saw a sharp increase around 2014. In the United States, however, the increase and decrease were remarkable, with the value in 2018 falling to the same level as before 2014.
