“Legal/Accounting Services” refers to foreign lawyers, foreign certified public accountants, and other legally qualified persons (attorneys, judicial scriveners, land and building surveyors, certified public accountants, tax accountants, social insurance and labor consultants, patent attorneys, and maritime agents). This residence status covers activities related to law or accounting performed by an administrative scrivener. The period of stay can be 5 years, 3 years, 1 year, or 3 months.
Residents with legal and accounting qualifications come from a limited number of countries, particularly the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and China. Numbers from the United States and the United Kingdom are gradually decreasing, but those from China and Australia are rising and may continue to do so. In recent years, other countries’ numbers have risen, for instance, those of South Korea, France, and Germany.
