Immigration Trends of Foreign Residents
Business Manager (Investor/Business Manager)
“Business Manager (Investor/Business Manager)” is a work qualification that allows trading or other business operations in Japan and managing such operations. The period of stay can be 5 years, 3 years, 1 year, 6 months, 4 months, or 3 months. Due to revision of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act in 2014, the name was changed from “Investment/Business Management” to “Business Management.” As a result, employees can now work for any company, whether foreign or domestic, with this visa.
From 2006 to 2014, Asian countries, particularly China and South Korea, accounted for the greatest share, but many foreigners come from North America, Europe, and Oceania. From Europe, many come from Russia and Western Europe. Conversely, countries other than the United States, China, and South Korea (for example, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Canada, India, and Australia) have been on the decline. In the 5 years since 2015, Africa and South America’s numbers have remained almost flat. In 2020, Pakistan’s ratio was high.
