“Religion” is a residence status necessary for missionary work and other religious activities conducted by people from foreign religious organizations. The period of stay can be 5 years, 3 years, 1 year, or 3 months.
By region, Asia has the largest number, and most are from South Korea, followed by the Philippines. North America has the second largest number, with the United States accounting for the most, followed by Canada and Mexico. In recent years, more have come from Thailand, Vietnam, and China. In Europe, the number has decreased slightly depending on the country, but the Islamic world has seen little change.
