Skilled Labor

The residence status “Skilled Labor” admits people to perform jobs that require proficient skills, for example, being a chef, sports instructor, aircraft pilot, or processor of precious metals. The period can be 3 months, 1 year, 3 years, or 5 years.
Many skilled laborers from Asia are entering and leaving Japan, especially from the highly populated China and from South Korea, India, Thailand, and Nepal. Additionally, the number from other Asian countries is increasing annually. A certain number are also entering Japan from Australia, the United States, and Canada.
Furthermore, the number of skilled laborers from other regions, for example, Europe and South America, is gradually increasing. Particularly distinctive is the rapidly increasing number since fiscal year 2016 from countries mainly in Eastern Europe, for instance, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania.
