Spouse or Child of Japanese National

The term “Spouse or Child of a Japanese National” refers to the spouse of a foreign national who is married to a Japanese national, but it also refers to a specially adopted child of a Japanese national or a person who was born as a child of a Japanese national. Unlike “Dependent” and other statuses of residence, there are no special restrictions on activities.
The number of Chinese, U.S., Filipino, and Thai nationals entering and leaving Japan between 2006 and 2020 continues to be higher than that of other countries. In recent years, there has also been an increasing trend in the number of Australian and Vietnamese nationals entering and leaving Japan. There is a particularly large change seen in Vietnam nationals; the number of people entering Japan in 2019, the peak year, was approximately 4.7 times more than that in 2006.
