Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services

“Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services” refers to residents in fields of natural sciences based on contracts with public and private institutions, to include mechanical engineers, interpreters, designers, language teachers at private companies, and marketing personnel. This residence status involves activities that require skills or knowledge in science or engineering or in humanities (for example, law, economics, sociology) or work that requires thinking or sensitivity based on a foreign culture. The period of stay can be 5 years, 3 years, 1 year, or 3 months.
This residency category involves a particularly large number of people. Asia accounts for a high proportion, including China, South Korea, India, and Vietnam, and except for 2020, the numbers have been increasing. The United States also has high numbers, but Oceania’s has been decreasing since its peak in 2006. Additionally, numbers from Canada and the United Kingdom have been declining. In recent years, numbers from Southeast Asia have increased overall, perhaps due to technical jobs.
