In the 2000s, the number of entries from China, South Korea, Thailand, the U.S., and Australia was prominent. Meanwhile, since 2010, the number of entries from the U.K., France, and Canada, which had previously been at the top of the list, has been decreasing. In particular, there has been a marked downward trend in entries from Europe since 2015. Sightseeing is thought to be influenced by geographic proximity and familiarity with Japan.
