Trainee

The “Trainee” residence status allows activities to acquire skills and knowledge at public and private institutions in Japan. The period can be 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year.
Many with a training residence status are entering Japan from Asia; leading countries include China, followed by the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Since 2011, however, the number entering from each of those neighboring countries has drastically decreased, particularly from China, which previously had a notably large presence. In contrast, countries around the equator and those in South America are increasing their presence.
